This collaborative project with the World Bank Group underscores our commitment to enhancing global peace efforts and supports the complex processes of reintegrating armed groups through sustainable development and human rights initiatives.
OAM Consult assisted the World Bank Group in their effort to design a new funding instrument to support governments and partners in the disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration (DDR) of armed groups back into society. This initiative addresses the emerging challenges posed by foreign fighters, the prevention and countering of violent extremisms, and operations in areas with limited governance, rule of law, and communication infrastructure. The project places a strong emphasis on institutionalising scalable learning for partner staff, which is essential for ensuring a coordinated and effective approach across the sectors engaged in the Human Rights, Humanitarian, Development, and Peace nexus (HDP Nexus).
Key Take-aways
New Funding Instrument: Developing a new financial tool designed specifically to aid in the DDR processes of armed groups.
Targeting Emerging Challenges: Focusing on emerging issues such as foreign fighters, and violent extremism, and areas with weak governance.
Scalable Learning: Enhancing capability through institutionalised learning within partner organisations, aimed at improving coordination and impact across all sectors within the HDP Nexus.
